Waaaasup Followers

For those of you who don't know me, I am a complete and total scatterbrain. One would think that an educator would be impeccably organized and remember things at all times, but one would be wrong. I'm actually more of a go-with-the-flow type of gal. And as such, I've totally neglected to keep you guys posted on what's going on with me.

So in nutshell-even though it's not Wednesday-I'm going to do my 'Waaaaasup Wednesday' on Thursday. Especially, since I haven't done a Waaaasup Wednesday in ages.

So here's waaaasup:1. I'm still working my day job.And I probably will until the end of time. Or at least until I win the lottery. Seriously, my job as an educator is way too fun to quit. Even if I sold a best seller and made millions, I'd probably still volunteer or something in a school. It's great market research! 2. I finally sent a story out to literary agents. Wasn't sure that I was ever gonna' do that. 3. I received my first rejection the very next day. Boo hoo! But it was actually pretty cool. At least, I can say that I'm a writer now. And the rejection wasn't even that bad. I was basically rejected because they don't accept debut picture book authors. They even suggested that I contact them if I decide to write for an older crowd. So I wasn't actually too sad about that rejection. It's not like they said, "You stink! Please do humanity a favor and stop writing!" 4. I'm on twitter now, so I'd love to hear from you in very short sentences. I love their instant message of " Not clever enough. You'll have to do better than that." I think that it's even helped me to be more succint in my writing. And in pb's, that's huge. 5. Right now, I'm in the middle of doing a 100 picture books in 100 weeks challenge. And as you've probably noticed, I'm lagging a bit on the reviews part. Rest assured, though, that the reading is going off as planned. So stay stuned for more book reviews. And hopefully, I'll catch up during this 3 day weekend. Feel free to join in. I'd love to hear your feedback.

Anywho. That's what I'm up to. So now enough about me. I want to know what you are up to? What are you reading or writing? Any big writing news with you? Any big life news? I'm all ears.

  1. Oh I get you, alright. I'm a complete scatter brain too.... and get this, it wasn't til I started writing. Now it seems my brain is cluttered with so many writing ideas and edits, there's barely room for anything else... lol!

Good luck with your challenge! And with that lottery thing. :)

  2. Yay for scatterbrains, not sure agents want to hear that, but creative types have so much going on up there at all times, its no wonder! Ideas can pop into your head at the most inconvenient moments, who needs to concentrate on real life anyway ;)

Good luck with 100 books, I'm trying to plough through some novels this year, I hardly read any last year, it was all pbs. Havin a great time doing Month of Poetry with Kat Apel, back to normal in Feb.

Have a great week Jess, I'll try and catch u on twitter :)

  3. Congratulations on submitting something to an agent or agents! That's a huge step.

And good luck with the 100 PBs in 100 weeks. It sounds like an incredible challenge. Better you than me...

  4. PK, I totally agree. I'd like to think that it's because we're so cerebral that we're simply thinking in a million directions at once:) I developed this theory after my 5 year old started stuttering. See, I was all worried that something was terribly wrong with him, and then the doctor assured me that it was just that he was thinking so quickly that his mouth just couldn't catch up. And now my kid is a genius(No verifiable evidence to back this up. This is just a mommy's opinion. LOL). So now that's my theory. That has to be what's wrong with me. LOL.

Kanga, They'd find out sooner or later. That's the thing about relationships, you can only hide your secrets for so long. It's best to just get it out in the open right now. LOL. And besides, I'd like to think that my 'scatterbrainess' is endearing and cute. Lord knows that my family gets a big laugh out of it. And any agent who takes me on will see that I have other redeeming qualities, I'm sure. *crosses her fingers*

P.S To any agent reading this, I'm not really that bad. I'm more dramatic than scatterbrained. LOL. Seriously, think about it. Would a scatterbrained educator stay employed for over 10 years, and receive the Golden Apple Nomination every single year? Nah.

Adina, Thanks! It was a huge step for me. And I'm so glad that I finally took it. I just know that I'm a writer deep down within my soul. I hope that tohers will see that, too.
